Bike wont start....Clatter noise.
« on: 08/07/09 07:29PM »
Okay so i know there are alot of threads dealing with this, but i need to some input.

Had the old battery replaced. The clatter was gone for 2 days. Rode it to my friends house about 5 miles away. Started to make the clatter sound but still turned over finally. Got home and see if it would start again. Nope. Clatter sound again and no start. So, I put the battery tender on it over night and it started right up the next morning. Rode for about 20 miles today and on my way home I noticed the engine light go on. Once i got home and parked it, the clatter was back and would not start.

Any input? It is a brand new battery and that did not solve the problem. Also using the tender didn't solve the problem.

Im thinking the bike isn't charging the battery while the bike is on? Maybe its a bad solenoid?

What about your spark plug or wire? Mine was corroded when it did the same things as yours is doing.

Buy a cheap multimeter and check the voltage on the battery as the bike is running.  If it's less than 12.5 volts (or so) it probably needs either a regulator/rectifier or a new stator.

Luck,

what kind of bike is it? the 08 1125 and some of the xb line are known to have bad stators and most dealers have them instock for warranty replacement.
