I called the hardware store in Wrightwood (760-249-3653) and Victor said there is a new closure since Monday, between Wrightwood and Newcomb's Ranch restaurant.
That's not good. Probably due to all the rocks coming down due to the snow runoff. I hope its only a short term closure.
I called again the hardware store in Wrightwood (760-249-3653) to get a bit more info, and now they say they is no new road closure since I rode through 2 days ago, on Monday (with detour on LA side).

So far the only information stating that there could be a new closure since Monday is...
r u sure wrightwood to ach - newcombs ranch is open? i checked with the restaurant, and they said its closed, and to take alternate routes.
But he could still be right.

7hr ride, ur nutz my friend. im officially calling this one the ocmoto endurance ride =) ride safe, stay hydrated
I agree that this proposed alternate route is a long ride:
http://maps.google.com/maps?f=d&source=s_d&saddr=Red+Hill+Ave&daddr=E+Santiago+Canyon+Rd+to:Santiago+Canyon+Rd+to:N+Circle+Dr+to:CA-38+E+to:Big+Bear+Blvd+to:CA-138+W+to:CA-91+W+to:S+Main+St&geocode=FcQeAgIdlqv5-A%3BFWwhAwId5AL8-A%3BFY35AQIdU0D9-A%3BFTr_AgIdOjAL-Q%3BFV48CQIdMPwH-Q%3BFQuECgId_DII-Q%3BFbKpCwId_v0A-Q%3BFd78BAIdjsz8-A%3BFaI2AgIdYnn5-A&hl=en&mra=mr&mrcr=0&via=1,4,6,7&dirflg=t&sll=33.756886,-117.738762&sspn=0.274878,0.417137&ie=UTF8&ll=33.560851,-117.366943&spn=1.089424,1.374664&z=10

This variation shaves off 41 minutes by not doing Santiago canyon that we do often because it is local:
http://maps.google.com/maps?f=d&source=s_d&saddr=W+MacArthur+Blvd&daddr=CA-74+E+to:W+Florida+Ave+to:N+Circle+Dr+to:Sandalwood+Dr+to:34.159545,-116.93161+to:Big+Bear+Blvd+to:N+Cajon+Blvd+to:S+Main+St&geocode=FWo4AgIdA3X5-A%3BFYw2_wEdfLH8-A%3BFTTyAgIdlAQH-Q%3BFTr_AgIdOjAL-Q%3BFdyxBgIdyNkF-Q%3B%3BFQuECgId_DII-Q%3BFcOMCwId0mz_-A%3BFfk0AgIdW3n5-A&hl=en&mra=dpe&mrcr=4&mrsp=5&sz=10&via=5&dirflg=t&sll=33.916245,-117.295105&sspn=0.999446,1.661682&ie=UTF8&ll=33.936524,-117.290039&spn=1.003762,1.661682&z=10

Newcomb's Ranch is supposed to be open on Friday starting at noon. If I cannot get an answer from them by 2pm Friday, we will avoid ACH for this ride and switch to the above alternate ride.

I've done most of the route before.  I believe the word people in my group used was "epic."  I'm booked on saturday or I'd join.

If you haven't ridden that section of 138, be advised: it is the real deal.  Just east of 15, lots of blind corners, off camber turns, pretty tight.  The section beyond Silverwood Lake is the same.

enjoy

I agree. Did this on May 15 and thoroughly enjoyed it, which is why it will be done again this Saturday, either as part of the original plan or the "plan B" route (decision Friday 2pm at the latest).

I like your spirit.

Got a PM from "endleesss" saying that his check dates back 2 weeks.  Thank you!
So since I just did ACH on Monday and there is no other obvious information of a new closure since then...
Update, 2010/6/3, 7:30pm: I got hold of the Newcomb's Ranch on the phone. They confirmed that ACH is open towards Wrightwood.
We are ON for the original route including ACH !

We can do the backup ride (Ortega, Idyllwild, Big bear, Silverwood) another weekend.

There were 5 of us doing this ride.
Less rocks on ACH than on Monday.

Fun people and twisty roads made for a great day.

It was a great, very fast, ride!  I enjoyed every bit of it. I am getting old, I am in a bit of pain but it is worth it. I would love to do this ride again. I am booked for the next few weekends but I am definitely in for this ride again!  Thanks Jerome for leading, had a blast!

Answers:
1) Very close: Only deviated to try a new restaurant in Wrightwood: Evergreen Cafe, and then following Lone Pine Canyon rd to the 138. I updated the map in my original post to reflect this small change.
2) Yes.

Get out there and have fun.
