Is De Luz a better Ortega?

Is De Luz rd a better Ortega?

Twisty road...  Check
Length... OK, not as long.
Traffic... Almost none.
Police...  Not seen in the 3 times I've been.
Blind corners... Less.

But it's not easy to find. And for the rest of the scenic roads North of fallbrook, you almost need a guide not to get lost.

I would be honored to introduce you to De Luz this Saturday. It should be a cool day following this week's heatwave.
Then you can make your own opinion about De Luz.

I REMEMBER DE LUZ HAVING SEVERAL CREEK WATER CROSSINGS AND ROUGH ASPHALT, AND THE "OLD" SLOW DRIVERS IN THE ROAD. IT WAS A NICE RIDE... BUT SLOW AND EASY. :)

There is a slow section, but South of it is the awesome section.

Its not that bad.  And there was one increasing radial turn that I remembered, but you can see most of the turns.
We are just warming up....

Great road for sight see'ers in my opinion. Not a canyon ride, but more of an experience ride. Lots of driveways, wineries, and at times, cattle.  Many stream crossings, so if you go when the water is running, be prepared to clean some fairings. When you finish in fallbrook, there is a great Italian sandwich shop I always go to, but the name eludes me. Awesome if you know what I'm speaking of. Enjoy it; awesome road!

I'd like to join in this ride if it happens.

My first crash--27 years ago--was on DeLuz. Panicked when I crested a hill and saw a water crossing, made the ultra-noob mistake of braking in the water. It was a year-round stream, and the pavement was covered with slippery moss, so the bike went down instantly. Put a hole in the alternator cover, scooping up some of the moss. Rode home humbled, scraped, and bruised, but otherwise OK.

Found these related articles...

"Easy Birder" Driving Routes: De Luz Road
Pashnit: De Luz
Sunday Morning Rides: De Luz: 3D fly through

The articles are good at capturing the scenic parts, but I have not found good pictures of the SW part of De Luz which has those great curves and looks more like Ortega.

I like De Luz.  The road is nice, the scenery is awesome...however, there are a lot of driveways, there can be flooding, and if the water sits for awhile, it can be slippery with algae.

I like Ortega.  The road is nice, the scenery is awesome...however, there are a lot of squids, and there can be a butt-load of traffic.

Nope, I like 'em both... :17:

Yes, algae is very slippery indeed.
Also, there is one corner that had sand on it each time I went, but we can see it in time.
And there is one dip that bottomed out my suspension (I was riding 2 up) and my rear wheel grabbed & flipped my license place.

But I have forgiven De Luz, because she is so beautiful.
No jealousy, I love Ortega too.

Yup.  That's what I remember of it.

It's not a road for blasting but it's a nice ride if you're two up and want to do a little sightseeing.
