Sounds like you made the right decision to not rush into it.

When I bought my 97 CBR900RR last year (for $2100), I had been without a bike for a almost 2 months so I was really wantin' to get a replacement.  It look great in the pictures and in the guy's well lit garage.  I notice a few minor things but was not really looking at the stuff I should have.  Had obviously been down but didn't look too serious.  After getting it home and removing all the fairings, I found a lot of little things that needed fixing - mickey moused wiring, incorrect or missing bolts, etc.  But it runs OK and gets me back and forth on my 80 miles a day commute.

At this point I consider it kind of a beater, not something I'm in love with.  If I had been less emotional and "I need a bike NOW", I probably would have waited for a better deal.  So take your time, there's always another one just around the corner.

I found a '99 r6 for $2500 that I'm going to check out today. 24k miles. 9/10 fairing condition. new battery. new tires. clean title. registration expires Nov 2011. Maybe this will be my next bike. I really had my eyes on that CBR though. Is this a good deal? BTW, thanks everybody for helping me cope with "bike withdrawal."

R6 is a great bike but if you want a CBR go stalk the CBR forums and post WTB CBR $2.5k - $2.8k.  It does seem the CBR's get a little more $ than other used brands.  Not that it matters, but if I were looking at SuperSport class bikes I would be hunting for a Triumph Daytona 675.

Too be honest, I think you could talk him down because of the Registration and all the minor scraps. But, that being said, it's a nice bike, but bring him down with the cash in front of his face. Good luck.
