Ok, so I tried to push start, I put it into 1st, held the clutch had it on and put up the kick stand. I rolled down my drive way, but the it just wont start. Am I doing it right? Or do I need a longer slope?

mmm... did you drop the clutch? Driveway should be plenty of slope. Just give it a good running push, saddle up and release the clutch. You will hear the motor turn over and you might need to give the throttle a few good pumps. Once it starts, release the throttle and pull the clutch.

Yea i didn't drop the clutch, just just held on for dear life, lol. So I just drop the clutch in 1st or 2nd? I don't need to press the start button?

I push start mine in 1st gear and it's really not that hard after you learn to do it. Don't need the start button just make sure the the key is in the correct position and the kill switch isn't on. Don't give it throttle until you hear it dying. I think I pull the clutch in before I give it throttle. I'll double check tomorrow.

0. key in ignition, kill switch disengaged
1. put the bike in 2nd gear
2. get moving (downhill, push by friend, whatever)
3. get up to your "top speed" (the fastest your friend can push you)
4. drop the clutch, half a breathe later, give a little bit of throttle
5. bike should fire and you are off to the races

for "how to" stuff, Youtube is your friend...

like Nightwing749, i push start my bikes in 1st as well (when needed), but i never need friends helping to push it. usually a slight decline/hill is all you need to get it going.

Sorry didn't update for the guys that helped out, it was a dead battery, the jump start worked, and now I'm in the process of saving up for a new battery. Thanks for all the help guys, really saved me from a tough couple weeks.

damn it dude, I hope your not on your lap top trying to bump start the bike. I'm taking it that your bike is carbed. Make sure the choke is on slightly, have the ignition on, put it into 2nd, find yourself a nice incline, hold clutch in, get speed going and let clutch out, it should start. If you can't find an incline, have someone push you until you get enough speed.....5-6 mph? Do it right....you should get it going in several trys.

Regardless, if you want to avoid all this crap, buy a new battery or try to jump start it via "JUST" the battery from your car. Don't turn on your car and jump start your bike with the car on. It will most likely damage your bike.

How do I know this crap? I use to bump start a 1984 CB700 Nighthawk at least 10 times a week thinking it was my dead battery. Well it was, but the Regulator rectifier was going out which effects everything electrical on the bike......like charging the battery. So your bikes symtoms sound like a dead battery.

p.s. I just read your last post....damn it :24:

F4i is injected, F4 is carbed.

Better to jump remotely so you can have your FI/fuel primed. Inexperienced push-start might leave you on the pavement. I had a 2002 F4i and sold with 47,000mi a few years ago. Bulletproof in my experience.

FAIL: I overlooked the i :( I'm personally looking for an F4i myself, very solid bikes and with the fuel injection, even better.

With a Power Commander, slip on, and manual cam chain tensioner... you eliminate all of its weaknesses. I LOVED that bike... bought it new in mid 2002 and sold it in 2005 with 47k mi. Rode the CRAP out of that bike :)

How often does the cam chain need to be adjusted? Or it has an auto tensioner?

The problem wasn't with adjustment, as the stock unit was auto tensioning, the irritating thing was when it became noisy at mid RPMs and sounded like the engine was going to fail. It never did, but many owners were irritated by it. APE racing makes a great unit that you check monthly and fixes the problem. I had one, it was fantastic.

sweet, well, I will defenitely look into an f4i......wanted a Honda, but nothing new is catching my genre...the rr's are too aggressive and the new bikes are too techy. I just want something simple. I heard the f4i fits the bill really well.

Yessir!
I had my 2003 cbr rr make that sound. It was very annoying and bothered me alot. I just replaced the cam chain which I got from APE racing for $60 bucks. Problem went away and no more sound!
