NEW MEMBER: 2008 CBR1000rr
« on: 10/05/11 11:15PM »
Hey guys, i've been riding for three years now on a K7 GsxR600 with about 4 track days in there. I'm ready to upgrade but i skim through some talk about 08 CBR1000s that have a OIL LEAK problem? Any additional info would be sweet.

Thanks! ;D

The '08 has a problem with the rings which causes it to burn oil. Honda has been repairing the problem by putting in new rings. I had mine done about 2 months ago. It stopped burning oil, completely. :17:

Welcome to the madness.

cbr1000 is a good bike, only the oil burning issue is the only problem

Thanks for all the welcomes!! So does the 09 have the same problem? Also, how much is it for that ring to get fixed?

Honda will "smoke test" the motor to verify that it is burning sufficient enough oil for them to repair. It's not yet considered a recall, but they repaired mine and "ButtertheGreat"s Honda at no charge. The problem was corrected on the later '09, '10, and '11 models.

I've always heard about this, but my 08 doesn't burn a drop.. I always thought that maybe it could have been something to do with peoples break ins..

Welcome to OC Moto.    :43:
The CBR1000RR is a great bike. I've got 48K on my '06 and the only real repair was a defective stator about 20K miles ago. Other than that, just oil changes, chains, and tires. Some of the '08 models had an issue with oil getting past the rings; as Oldman mentioned. I assume they had a bad batch of engines at some point. Most '08's had no trouble. The guys, that I know of, that had the problem received warranty repairs.  Hope you can make it out to a bike night soon.
