HB is horrible for that crap. couple years ago when I lived in the area. I recieved the same chicken sh!t ticket.  Turn signals not far enough apart.  2 DAYS LATER, same cop gives me the same freaking ticket, and then to top it off, plays dumb with me, "I've never seen you around here", I even showed him the previous ticket, and he still played dumb.

He probably wasn't playing dumb. Some of em aren't exactly mensa candidates. One friend of mine got pulled over and ticketed for illegal exhaust because there was nmo EPA sticker on it. He told them the law didn't apply on a bike built before 1982, because that's when the FED enacated that law. He looked right at him and handed him the ticket, and said "No EPA stamp means you get a ticket." We just stood there dumbfounded. I didn't get ticketed because my bike was BONE STOCK and only about 2 weeks old, but he still checked it out and looked for something to ticket. I don't even take my truck into HB anymore. That place can kiss my a$$. I choose to spend my money elsewhere.

I just got hit (by HBPD) for no rear facing red reflectors (already fixed that) and not having turn signals that are 9 inches apart. I have an integrated tail light, but that is no good here :20:

Anyone know where I can get some DOT turn signals for cheap so I can get this ticket taken care of?

thanks

Call around to some of the after-market based shops and talk to the mechanics.  They often set up people's bikes for racing.  You can usually get a good deal on a set of slightly used OEM turn signals from them.  That's how I got mine.

Tige at Cyclemall.net probably has a set or two laying around.

I got hit for no rear reflectors too, going down main st. in HB.  He said he was skeptical about my FE kit having my signals 9 inches apart ("you're cutting it real close, he says").  Then he starts with the BS..."your exhaust is illegal".  Mind you, I have the stock exhaust from the FACTORY, not whatever aftermarket the dealer put on there...he didn't buy it.  The best part was him saying "Don't worry, I won't get ya for it"...gee thanks...

HB cops are pricks.  I will stay out of there as much as possible.  No problems with Newport though...seem much more relaxed there, although I'm sure some of you will have differing opinions.

I believe I still have my old stock turn signals sitting in a box in the garage.  If you want... you can borrow them to get the ticket cleared up.  Just let me know.

Draconis: Can you check to see if you have them? How do they connect? I bought my bike without a rear fender so they might be fun to attach. I work in Irvine, maybe I could just swing by after work one day and check em out

My problem is that I live in HB so I have to ride through it. I don't cruise up and down main street looking for trouble, but I live close enough that I finally got caught ridin dirty. I've been here for over a year now and I just got pulled over twice within a few weeks for the same exact thing  :20:

Good idea on calling Tige, I might try that

You can easily take care of the reflecter issue with reflective tape from the hardware store.Costs sbout $2.I used a half inch strip on the bottom of the lic plate.

Exactly what I did onlyu I bought a 50' roll of the DOT diamond reflective tape that semi trailers use (that way if a cop still hassles me I can say "it's DOT").  So if anybody wants some, a 6" strip is $1.00... and I believe it's 1" wide so you can cut it in half and do two bikes with it.
