I figured the same...tail gate also has a plastic edge, so there isn't a whole lot of drag\

sorry to bump this again...but I'm not crazy

there's already a product used to do this...just get a "cargo buddy" with the winch mount, and attach it to the front of your truck bed:

or you can adapt your own winch mount and pull heavier bikes like this:

here's an F-150 adapted to accept a winch in the front of the truck bed:

and a 1700lb Warn winch (not the harbor freight variety) is $109:

once I finish my dirtbike setup (install 2 removable chocks, install 5 d-rings), I'm seriously considering a custom-fab to fit a winch into the bed, in front of the CNG tanks to pull up my street bike...that way I can self-load when I do track days, or "drop myself off" when I get servicing done on the truck, or the bike

kinda works...gotta make sure the cable has tension and spools up straight...

and I need a better place to tie the front of the bike

on a light dirt bike, it's easier just to run and push it in HAHA

Good work!  Looking forward to seeing how you get it all done up.

Ride on,

That is a interesting and cool project!!!

Being vertically challenged, loading up the bike on the back of the truck after a day of riding can be a PIA at times. One time in particular, I had a pretty good get-off out on the trails, I managed to limp back to the staging area and realized I was too sore to safely load the bike. If it wasn't the kind assistance of others at the trailhead, I would have just stared and wished the bike was loaded.
