HUGE THANKS TO TODD for letting me borrow a dirtbike!!! (sorry about the slight delay with the CNG pump, but we made it back with room to spare!!)

this was my first time to ever ride the desert...and mind you, I grew up in MA watching "on any sunday" and "crusty demons of dirt", and never thought I'd get the chance to ride those areas...now it's only 2 hours away!

and let me also clarify - this would kind of suck on the bikes I'm used to: XR100/XR200, etc. Todd gave me a bike with fresh fluids, fresh pipe (dents removed) and fresh rear tire...

from the top:

the ready ramp (ramp/bed extender combo) is the shizz - I highly recommend it:

parked next to a rock...had shade

F-150 looks right at home

Todd took his YZ250

and he loaned me a 1999 Kawasaki KX125 (aka "Lidia")

first 10 minutes: ROCKS

forced me to learn the bike QUICK

from camp: great view of mountain line

endless trails to explore

smooth stuff, rocky stuff, open stuff, whoops stuff...you name it

3rd run - I lead

so I head for the rocky hills

'cept things got real...more and more rocks

blind turn, Todd walks ahead to inspect:

Me: "Is it okay?"

Todd: "We can go down it, but I wouldn't want to come up it."

it sucked....I didn't even want to go down it

phew! we made it!

out here, everything's all natural...no fake stuff here...and even out in the desert is a lot of beauty

(this one's for Todd's wife)

we had now been riding over 4 hours...and the last trail beat me up...

time to go home

so much fun...if anyone hasn't tried desert before, and you live in socal, you're missing out!!

I'm going to be riding silverwood (pilot rock landing) either Saturday or Sunday. Awesome riding up there. I love desert but nothing beats the mountains.

Damn that looks like a great day. What do you think Todd, my Hyper could hang out there? It looks pretty do-able.

not with the knarly stuff, no...

your bike will do fine on the hardpack/gravel roads, it'll go through (but not be so much fun) through the "open desert" parts, it will not make it through the rock sections, and when you're done you'll have wished you stuck to the street

so if you just want to see some dirt with your bike, just head to santiago...close...sufficient

if you want to enjoy the desert, I'd recommend borrowing one of Todd's bikes...

might have to hold off for this weekend, I sprained my ankle today. But I've got youth on my side so I'm hoping for a speedy recovery, I really want to try out the new front tire.

I decided to try out rock climbing and fell 15 feet onto my right ankle and it popped

That'd be wishful thinking on my part.

Ouch... That sounds like it hurt. Hope it gets better. Home remedy for that... Drink a lot, smoke, drink, sex, sleep. Works every time.

Beaumont?  I love that place!  My kids grew up riding there.   :1:    :1:

No problems with the popo?  I heard that they have been ticketing out there (at least on the weekends).
Even duct tape can't fix stupid, but it can help muffle the sound.
