Bluetooth helmet speakers on a budget. $21
« on: 07/13/14 04:02PM »
I wanted some decent music listening but was tired of earbuds tethered to my iphone so I decided to pick up a bluetooth receiver off amazon for $18.  I also had some cheap helmet speakers off eBay for under $3.
It's an amazing setup for about $20 bucks.  pairing was easy to my iphone. music quality lacks bass but is super clear.  I just velcro taped the receiver to the helmet and taped in the speakers. Took a 2hour ride up Ortega to the Outlook roadhouse and there was still plenty of power after.  Just wanted to share this setup to those on a budget and don't need the communicator

I was looking at reviews on that and others. Not too bad. They have other off brand communicator bluetooth headsets for cheap too. Not that great looking or kinda look cheap. Im still undecided about what to get. But waiting for the skully to price if its worth it

I too am looking for a wireless way to stream music into my helmet, I've been using an earbud for years, but wires are "old school".  The problem, I regularly use 2 helmets so committing to one helmet mounted unit such as a Senna or Chatterbox is an expensive inconvenience.  Yes, one can switch the communicator unit, but it would still require an extra speaker/mic set at ~$30 (besides I don't need the communicator part).  For now, I've decided to order this: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00ELCP55I/ref=gno_cart_title_0?ie=UTF8&psc=1&smid=A1E57UY6AMKO25  It's only $27, it's got 4 stars, compact, and you don't look like a douche wearing one of those typical Bluetooth headsets.

I've done this before, its as cool as cool gets for spending 1/10 of what the real thing costs. When the cool factor wears away, I'd highly reccomend just getting a chatterbox or sena (as i did too). It will also do better visual justice to your brand new $430 RF-1200
omg how do i fly this...

I agree.  I'm holding out for the Sena 20s , but want to see more reviews from riders before I decide.  Then I'll use the mpow bluetooth for my car aux input.  :7:

Gotta say this little $18 receiver sounds great after tweaking my iphone eq to bass booster on. sounds fuller.

Wait, do you work at Mission Motorsports?  ;)  The sales guy there tried to upsell me a $500 helmet after he asked what I rode.  They won't be getting my business anytime soon, especially after their last holiday "clearance" sale!

I have some ear plugs on me so I'll try it later.  but I would say yes since I had to turn the volume down a few times.
