Yamaha R1 Ticking Noise
« on: 10/11/14 06:59PM »
 :42:

I have a 2004 R1, ticking noise seem to be getting louder. Can only hear it when idle.
Ive search different forums and all answers i get it 's normal for R1. Is this true? Im not due for valve adjustments yet but should i get it done anyway?

Who do you trust and most reliable work done between metric method vs Mach 1?

It's probably your ACCT (Automatic Cam Chain Tensioner). Others with the same bike can provide more detailed info that's model specific. Some models have manual tensioners you can switch to, etc.

Have you checked your oil level lately? Might be low?

You can get a mechanic's stethoscope for less than five bucks at Harbor Freight.

It will tell you where the ticking is coming from, but you have to listen to it...

;)

Luck,

Some tensioners you can slightly loosens the mounting bolts until you hear it click, then tighten back up,
Don't know about the R1, though ....

I hear Yamaha updated the tensioner for that year, so there must have been some complaints of noise ?

Thanks guys for the inputs.

I'm 100% it's not the clutch. It does not go away when I pull the clutch.
oil level is good.
Had valve adjustment done at 20K it's at 37K now

I'll take it in to an expert just to be sure.
