Last minute Sunday 3/22 ride?
« on: 03/21/15 08:00PM »
I finished my honey-do list early this weekend and am itching to ride.  I took my RD up to cooks this morning for breakfast but that just wasn't enough for me.

I'm looking to do a ride through the lake-side of Ortega Highway tomorrow but haven't been up there in about a year.  Has anyone been up there lately?   If so, what are the road conditions like?   Would anyone like to join me?

I like to ride the backside just below the cafe up and down a bunch and then split off around 1 or 2.  Nothing too fast or crazy, it ain't a track after all.  If you would like to go, post here and we can set up a time and meeting place.

I am also open to ride crestline as an alternative if that works better for anyone who is interested.

*note: this ride would not be on my rd, I'd be on my sv650.  Something with a little more thrill in the canyons.

I was thinking of hitting main divide road off of Ortega, tomorrow. I'd be down to meet up and ride the twisties for a bit.

Copernicus:

I've never ridden the main divide road, I have only been up and down Ortega highway before.  I wouldn't mind trying something new though.  What is main divide like?   What time were you planning on riding tomorrow?  Personally I was going to ride whenever I got out of bed, but that was with the notion of a solo ride.   I'm game to be up early or late.

I haven't been on Main Divide road, it turns to dirt towards the end, which is why I want to check it out. But I'd be down to ride Ortega with you for a bit before I head down to the dirt.

I'm pretty flexible as long as we don't meet too late.

I'd be down to cruise the divide with you as well.  I'm not sure our Sv's would enjoy the dirt too much but I don't mind roughing it a bit to see whats down there.   I typically meet up around 8 or 9 at the bottom of the lakeside but seeing as how your in HB that doesn't make much sense.  So, I can meet you on the 5 fwy side, which is actually closer for me anyways, and we can ride through to the back, then hit the main divide.  How does 9 at the Starbucks near the 5/Ortega interchange sound?

LOL, it's been awhile since I've been on here....need to update my profile. I've got an ADV bike now, F800GS.

But I"m down to meet at SBux at 9.

Gotcha, that makes more sense now, I can still tag along until I feel I need to turn around.  Anyways, I'll PM you my number just incase plans change pre-ride or we run late.

Great ride today! Let's do it again and find out how far main divide is paved.

if going up Ortega from the OC side and you turn right onto the Main Divide road, it will take you to, or roads that lead to, Fallbrook. I took my Duc with a couple of VFR riders and we ended up going that way and once we passed the point of no return (meaning it would take more turn around and go back), we ended up more off-road than on road. I low sided in a sandy corner so needless to say, I will not be returning there on a street bike! If I had and ADV bike I would do it again though.

Great ride indeed.  If I had a dual sport I'd be down to travel further down that road.  Once we got to the OHV area though it got real gravely and I wouldn't be comfortable taking the SV any further down there.

It's paved all the way although I wouldn't ride a Hog on it. It comes out on Tenaja Rd. (Clinton Keith Rd.)  From there, one can connect to the De Luz Rd. and take it into Fallbrook.  Nice Ride

from the OC side - you mean left onto north main divide, or right down the south main divide?

the south main divide, you can ride all the way through paved...it gets a little bumpy on the narrow paved road, but it stays paved the whole way down...and sv is fine

Correct, down the South main divide, and after the OHV area it got really full of gravel and dirt mounds.  So, no, I personally wouldn't want to venture much further; could it be done?  yes. Do I want to do it?  no
