Wheel Works GG
« on: 03/16/16 05:21PM »
I needed a new road4 for my rear.  After calling a dozen shops Wheel works seems to give me a decent quote,  $220 mounted to the bike.  This was Monday around noon. They didn't have it in stock so they placed an order saying it would come in the next day by 11.  Around 2pm the next day I call to learn that the tire will not be in for another day.  That sucked because I wanted to go through ACH WED morning.  I get there today and see a $300 bill on the tag that was just written up for my bike.  $63 for labor $17 for taxes, and the tire is $220.
I have been shopping this specific tire for a month now. I know that the cost of the tire is $180.07
I through a fit because of the attempt to charge me $300 for a $180 tire!  Nearly walked away before he gave me $20 off the job.... $280 one rear 180/55/17 Road4 installed on the bike.  I still feel ripped off but I really couldn't find a better deal without taking the wheel off the bike myself.  What ever happened to free install when you buy the tire at the shop?

It's shops like these that drive me to buy online, and it's also shops like these that play games and soon find themselves without business...  I work near this shop so I doubt they will be earning my business any time soon!

Thanks for the head's up,

Rockymountainatvmc is awesome.  I got my new set of Q'3s from Revzilla.  They were here the next day.  Crazy fast shipping from Revzilla to SoCal.

The price was the same on both sites.

Superchicken is the man.  I'll be hitting him up when I need to get mine mounted.

Been using WW for 20 years. I don't mind paying for good service. Quality dudes and getting the rubber online and bringing it in is cool with them. Their tire prices are hit and miss and why I shop around. Sad that people want something for nothing or talk shit. Maybe next time do it yourself and see how you so.

^ if you went to a restaurant and ordered a burger on the menu that said it was $10, but when you got the bill they charged you $30, you would be pissed too. I'll give WW the benefit of the doubt that they forgot they gave him a cut price over the phone... but he still ended up paying more than they quoted him which isn't cool. Misunderstanding maybe?

The entitled generation has a skewed perception when it comes to services rendered. Neither of us know wat was said or heard. I do know WW is a stand up shop. I started using them 20+ years and recently 6 months ago for a front and rear tire. My horse rides smooth as glass at 40 or 120. I think there is more to the story than will ever be discussed here.

Mr. Chicken ftw!

I've also done:
-hula hoop the tire on my waist and ride over
-shipped the tire directly to his shop
-brought rim off the bike

He's helped me out in a pinch and the prices never go up when that happens!

Maybe next time do it yourself and see how you so.

I believe he rode in from out of state and needed a rear tire asap.

Maybe the shop meant to say $220 for the tire ONLY but was understood instead to be tire including install?  Maybe the guy over the phone messed up?  Who knows.

However, he got charged $180 for the rear tire (full retail price), plus labor.  I think this was "fair" under the circumstances.  But I understand he got pissed off because of the original quote and his expectation.  The shop tried to make amends by giving him a discount to close the price gap.

It happens.  Lets give the OP and the shop both the benefit of the doubt.  It sucks when you have to replace your tire in middle of a long road trip.  That's all I have to say.

I am on vacation needed a new rear. Spent an hour calling a dozen shops in my area and even logged into my ocmoto account for the first time since I moved out of state(7 years) to try to find an aggressive price for a new rear road 4 on the bike install. I use reveilla.com frequently so I am aware of tire prices. Everything being said, $280 is still a grip of cash for 1 tire. Especially when I can get this tire for $180.
This post was more of a rant about an expensive tire then a shop judgement.
