Kawasaki KX65 Miniracer
« on: 05/17/16 09:26AM »

In my quest for minibike racing, I was told building a KX65 mini race bike is a great value.  Wondering if anyone did this?  Any tips/advice?

did it (rm65...same thing)...suspension and 12" wheels/tires (faster lap times than 17's) will be your biggest expense...usually more than the bike

if you join mini moto alliance on facebook there are plenty of build sheets

might be cheaper to buy a built bike...I've seen people sell nsr50's for just over a grand

Yea, I was looking to find a built one at first.  Any good sources?  Not much on CL.  The NSR50 would be an option as well but more expensive when you crash.  Which one is peppier?  Supposedly the kx65 is pretty quick.

kx65 for sure...they make more power than the nsr50...and I crashed the rm65 the first day I was there and just bent the bars back into place

https://www.facebook.com/groups/minimotoalliance/forsaleposts/

also just being at the track...I just heard about a guy selling that day, then bought it after he let me ride it

craigslist doesn't have many built sumo's...just buy the bike as a dirt bike (usually $500-$600) then upgrade away, but it WILL turn into a $1,200 project quick

I'm reserving about $2k.  A built one would be my preference to save some time but either way works.  Will check out the FB page.  Thanks man!

Someone posted that they have a bike built to spec...how fast do you want it?

You want stock motor with upgraded suspension, rims, and tires?

Not a huge rush.  Sometime next month maybe; if I can save a $, I can be patient :) ?  I would imagine definitely suspension, wheels and some sticky track tires.  Not sure if there is anything else that's a "must have" ?  I just want it to be a dependable and fun racer.

Strong second regarding the Mini Moto Alliance FB page, it's a great way to keep a pulse on the happenings. In addition, keep an eye on the UMRA page/site. Both these organizations support intro days focused on introducing new riders to the wild world of minis.

Looks like a cool little bike but not sure about parts availability and such?  Also, is it chinese??

Parts are readily available but these things were designed to take a beating. Yes they are built in China but are made well, these aren't your cheap Chinese pit bikes you pick up for a couple hundred dollars.

I checked it out.  After you add some goodies and shipping to it, you'll be at $3k+.  In that price territory, I'd consider getting a Ninja 250/300 instead.

I'd buy one out of the box you can get them under 2k and then couple hundred for shipping and it's ready to race. I'd have so much more fun on one of these for 2500 than I would a ninja, not to mention so much cheaper to race and crash. The initial buy in isn't ridiculously low or anything, it's the cost of maintenance and racing it that makes it so cheap and a great deal to me

I'll keep it on the list as a future potential.  I'd like to ride one first and talk to some owners about their experience.  I had a chinese made scooter at some point and it wasn't an ownership experience I'd like to repeat.

Yeah, I really want one to take out to little kart tracks and do some minigp racing. They are a blast to ride, and like I said from everything I've seen and heard cheap as hell to run a season with.

Good write up from an NSR50 guy I read a while back
