What would cause something like that? Was he coming down from a wheelie or something?

Damn lucky!

I wondered about the wheelie, too.  Some bikes just tend to tank-slap...  It can be the tires, triple-tree offset, having the rake and trail set too short, or other things.  A bump or series of bumps can start it going.

Ride on,

J~

I had the beginnings of a tank slapper the other day, didn't progress to stop to stop full on slapping yet still was not fun.

I saw this on another forum and the theory was the bike, a Z1000 which aren't known for tank slappers, and the "creative editing" leaves much to the imagination especially the wheelie assumption.  I bet the rider doesn't mention that he had video recording when he makes his insurance claim.  He's very lucky considering the truck has those wind skirts and he was able to slip under them going in and tumbling out.  The bad part about getting views with a public video, if an insurer really wants to investigate a claim, they can find this video and act accordingly by jacking up the rider's rates.

Post judiciously,

~L

Unless something is wrong with the bike, the only way to get a bad tank slapper like that is coming down from a wheelie.  If you have a a relaxed grip on the bars, the bike sorts itself out.

My guess, came down from a wheelie.  Notice he blurres the dash/speedo?  Or that his riding buddy kept going, didn't stop?  Is assume he was doing a high speed wheelie, trying to impress the other rider, landed off slightly, which caused the tank slap.  He's very lucky he wasn't run over by the truck.  The truck driver wouldn't have even noticed.

Maybe I'm giving him the benefit of the doubt, but wouldn't there be witnesses coming out stating that he was doing a wheelie?

I believe the guys explanation. my one and only tank slapper started pretty much how he described.
