Do it! I rode the VStrom. That thing was fun. Just can’t do big jumps and big rocks.

OTOH how long does it take to swap the rear shock? Couple of hours?

If that's the case I'd try to do that because it would be a shame not to have a fun bike for the dirt out there.  Having said that BD, if you're working today that's going to suck having to work it tonight.

You'll still have fun on the VStrom no matter what.  I've seen videos....the VStrom can go offroad.

For Todd 30 mins, for me 1-2 hours LOL

I saw a YouTube video of a quick swap process - don't take off the subframe, just take out the bolts....but on a 2t I have to take off the midpipe too...then after everything is unhooked it will come out of the right side.

I may try...I get off work at 9 tho...hom by 9:45ish and a 7am departure

Dude, sell one in your collection and get a cheap dual sport (they can be lowered, people do it all the time, lower suspension & seat).  They are dead simple and super reliable.  Then discover a new dimension in riding.  A whole other world opens up to you.  And people actually pull over to let you by...no honking or flashing of lights needed (mostly)!  LOL!

This summer will be the summer of dual sport riding for me.  As I was telling OOTV, there are a ton of trails all around us.

magic 8 ball says work future is unclear. Maybe no work or may have more work and 1/2 my weekends devoted to work. Either way riding may become a rare luxury :(

Typical Breakdirt that I know n love KING of no maintenance!!!! First ride with BD he showed up with his Honda laying sideways in the back of the truck with no wheels or bars attached bolted it all up during staging. ALWAYS makes it home!

same...I work every other weekend...here's my solution: 2 bikes
1.) 1 dual sport - from lake forest Trabuco Creek Rd (see video from other thread) is a 12 minute ride to the entrance...and the length or riding is 25-1 hr depending on which side you pick...key here is to "sneak in" a ride because it's close
2.) full day off? - commit to a desert day - much, much, much more and better terrain
3.) keep the BMW for street/commuting/touring

that should cover it all and keep things interesting...
