Will motorcycles be allowed to drive for free in the 405 Express Lanes?

All vehicles, including motorcycles, must have a transponder in order to use the 405 Express Lanes. Per the toll policy, motorcycles are allowed free travel at all times and are eligible for the Special Access account.

not that I'll be doing the Long Beach -> OC commute by 2022/2023, but I will keep my toll road transponder (paid a one time fee when the '91 expansion happened) at the times I head to LA area

I commute from L.A. County to the OC via the 405.  Unfortunately its only for 5 miles, the rest is on the 22 fwy.  If they ran the express along the 22 as well, I'd be all over it.

This is my daily route. Hopefully the toll-lane will provide a bit more protection from lane-crossers.

I was tagged last year by a double-lane crosser on the SB-405/Euclid. Luckily was able to walk away from that one.

That's all great and all but when are they going to realize that widening freeways is only a temp fix??  By the time it's finished, traffic already caught up.  Really wish they would build out a train network instead.  I've been commuting OC to the South Bay for 7 years now and the bulk of the traffic is actually north of the 605/405 interchange; this will only add to the dangerous situation of traffic coming to a halt.  I've seen so many accidents in that area ever since they completed the second carpool lane (including one fatal motorcycle accident that is still haunting me).

Haaa..itís not aimed at fixing anything...like everything in CA itís a money grab move

Take millions of tax payer money into their pockets, advertise it as a benefit to the people, continue to make money for years and years to come

The key is scooting around as the minority -motorcyclists arenít going to make them rich so free helps us and no worry to them

Toll roads in LA County don't charge. Although every morning on 110 N, I see one or two people pulled over off the Express lanes.

I also agree with above, the worst traffic happens north of the 405 / 605: narrower lanes, dumb drivers unable to just maintain steady speed & consistent following distances, etc.

TLDR

So will it be like the 110? Motorcycles are free and do NOT need a transponder. But this says even motorcycles need a transponder, although the ride will be free....isn't there a monthly fee for the transponder?

It's fairly easy to bypass those systems on a bike. Not that I have any experience with that. Just saying.

Is there still a transponder monthly "maintenance (BS) fee?"
