Deals and Vendors / Gear blow outs
« on: 07/07/17 09:15AM »
I've been getting a lot of emails from various online retailers, STG, Revzilla, Motorcycle Gear, etc. Looks like a lot of good deals out there. Just saw one for a Rev'It jacket (Model: Shield Jacket) for $139.00 (Through 7/9/17) and it appears to be multi-seasonal. If you're in need of a new jacket, this one looks like a good deal.

Tales of the Road / WTF! Airplane crash lands on 405

Wow! News just showed a small plane that crashed on the 405 freeway just shy of John Wayne Airport. Anyone see it happen?

I'm selling a pair of Scorpion SG3 MKII gloves. These are only a couple months old and have only been worn maybe 5-6 times. They are essentially new, yet slightly broken in. These gloves have a couple of nice features, one being the Knox SPS sliders on the palm, the other is they can be used with your GPS/Smart phone (tip of index fingers only). This came in handy a couple of times when I needed to change my route on my phone map app. The one drawback that they have is the dual wrist strap tabs are a little short, making it difficult to overlap and secure the two straps against one another. I have been doing them as tight as I can without overlapping the the two straps with good results. The thicker you jacket sleeve, the easier my method is to use. Since they also have a wrist strap, securing this well should help secure them to your hand.

I'm asking $75.00.

I have provided a link to the product page on Revzilla for reference. Other than the dual closure issue, these have been getting good reviews. https://www.revzilla.com/motorcycle/scorpion-sg3-mk-ii-gloves

Actual glove pics. (NOTE: For some reason my email notifications stopped working so if you PM me, please post here letting me you sent the PM. Thanks)

Off Topic / So how about this weather?!
« on: 01/22/17 06:47PM »
Not sure what others have dealt with these past few days but it has been raining almost not stop today! Glad I ran a few errands yesterday on the bike, yet nothing to satiate the need for riding the curves! I actually put on my waterproof motorcycle boots today to take the dog out to do his business and I'm glad I did, the walkways around the complex here we so flooded my whole foot was under water in several sections. Even the grass areas were water logged.

This is about the wettest I've seen it here in So Cal in quite a while, although it has made a dent in the drought situation it sure has curbed the riding time! I did commute in the rain a few times and determined I need a new rain suit, I didn't have an issue with my boots. At least not until I hit a big pool of water, which the front tire directed a wave of water through both boots!  :4: Glad I was only three blocks from home at that point, would have sucked had this happened when I left SD two hours before.

Gear For Sale / Rev'it Summit H2O size XL
« on: 12/19/16 06:14PM »
I am selling a pair of Rev'it Summit H2O gloves, size XL. These are about a year old but only have been worn a few times. I bought these to go over some heated glove liners but they just don't seem to work well with one another. Although these are waterproof gloves, they have not seen any wet weather. I've only worn them with the glove liners in the cold and in the house trying to break them in but I just don't think they will work out for me. I'm asking $75.00

Brand new they went for ~$150 and are going for about $135 on closeout if still available. Some quick notes about them, as mentioned they are waterproof, the left hand glove has a visor wiper, the fore fingers and wrist areas have reflective striping. There is a hard TPU palm slider and knuckle protector.

Here are a couple of pics of my gloves and a written as well as a video review from Revzilla.

Below is a link to the study that was done for the MSF by VTTI about motorcycle crashes and near crash incidents. I didn't read the whole study but did a cursory scan and read the crux of the study on Revzilla's article about it here... http://www.revzilla.com/common-tread/what-virginia-tech-learned-about-how-and-why-we-crash-our-motorcycles?utm_source=Sailthru&utm_medium=email&utm_campaign=11/26/2016&utm_term=Common%20Tread%20%7C%20Combined

Yesterday seemed to be a very eventful day for me. Before heading to Palomar, we had stopped on the back side of Ortega for a short rest and to let those that got caught behind the train of cars to catch up and while we were waiting, there was a rider who pulled up. Turns out he was the a business owner letting us know that he was opening a new "Moto" shop mostly for used clothing, similar to what Yellow Devil use to be. He said he use to work for Scorpion and even brought some samples of gear they had on hand and mentioned they were going to host a swap meet. According to the flyer, it's free to sell your gear, however, the consignment part of the business he did say that there is a 30% cut for them, if you want cash back or no cost if you took a store credit.

I cannot vouch for this person or company as I only briefly met him yesterday but sounds like something that has been missing for a while. Although Corona is a little far for some of us, maybe worth checking out. One other thing, as for their consignment part, no helmets or electronics at the moment. The first due to liability reasons and the other they just don't feel electronics are something they want to get involved with.

Check it out for yourself!

Tales of the Road / Anyone know what happened here?
« on: 08/22/16 07:27AM »
So yesterday as I was coming home from the Palomar ride, I was greeted with a line of cars all stopped on the freeway (North 405 @ Beach ~3:00P-3:30P). I was doing the typical lane splitting ("sharing" for those who prefer the PC term) and as I was nearing the Beach Blvd exit, there was a CHP cruiser blocking the 3&4 lanes and several people were outside of their cars. At first I thought there was some major accident but after noticing that there were all sorts of emergency vehicles on the over pass and there was no wreck that I could see, I wasn't sure what was going on. After a few minutes, I noticed that the South bound lanes were also being blocked so this what getting even more mysterious.

After a few more minutes, there was some commotion and then a fire truck and ambulance started to rush toward the over pass, then a few "spectators" (we all were at this point) started saying "Did he jump" He jumped right?" "I'm pretty sure he jumped!" It as at this point it appeared that there was someone who was threatening to jump form the over pass. Not sure what actually happened, as to whether or not the person actually jumped or if they were "talked off the ledge" but I couldn't find anything online about what happened. Does anybody know what actually transpired here? Anyone else happen to be on this part of freeway yesterday about this time?

Although I'm curious about what actually happened, I am really hoping that no one actually jumped and that the person was able to be saved and will get some help.

Miscellaneous / Free water cooler. Needs slight work.
« on: 08/04/16 02:16PM »
Long story short, the cold compressor of this water cooler works intermitently. When I called for service they offered to send me a new one BUT required that I cut the cord on this unit and send them a picture. So essentially this unit works with the room temp and hot dispensers, and if lucky, the cold every now and then. Repairing the cord should be very simple as I still have the cord and enough length to make a quick repair. The cold compressor, might be something as simple as a relay or a loose connection or ? ? ?

The unit cost $200 new but this is free for the taking. All you need to do is come and get it.

Link to an article that says Honda will stop producing the CBR600RR for the UK and European markets. Interesting read.

General Motorcycle Discussion / Ride with Norman Redus
« on: 06/13/16 03:44PM »
Anyone catch the new show 'Ride with Norman Reedus'? (Sunday 10PM on AMC)

Not bad but I think it could be better. On the premier episode he started off on a Ducati Hypermotard and stopped in at RSD in Los Alamitos to meet up with Roland Sands and promptly traded his Duc for an RSD modified BMW (one of the shows sponsors coincidently) and then went to meet up with a female friend in Hollywood. They showcased her trade, a jewelry maker and then rode off up the coast. They stopped at a few places and profiled a few people/places like Pismo Beach, 'Zero' motorcycles and podcast up in Santa Cruz. Not sure what's missing but I felt I wanted a little more from the show but I'll tune in next week and see if it's any better or the same.

Miscellaneous / Harbor Freight Motorcycle Dolly SOLD
« on: 05/16/16 05:09PM »
I am selling my HF Motorcycle Dolly. It is used and fully assembled. Here is a link to the unit on HF's website. http://www.harborfreight.com/low-profile-motorcycle-dolly-95896.html
I can take pictures of the actual dolly if you like as it is used so will have some wear on it. Since it's fully assembled picking it up in a truck would be best but it is easy to break down if all you have is a small vehicle.
