Intermediate - You have been riding for at least 6 months (hopefully more) and feel comfortable enough to handle twisty roads as found in local canyons. You are mature enough to understand going slow is okay and not to try and keep up with riders that are faster than you as it will result in a crash.
Expert - You have been riding for years and hopefully been riding with the members going on the ride long enough to know how they ride.

Jerome-

Awesome loop!!!! I've done this loop many times, and in various combination. For anyone who has not done this....the stretch of road between Frazier Park and Hwy 166/33 is not to be missed.

Folks, this guy just got back in the saddle like 7 months ago, after something like 20 years off (sorry, didn't mean to age you out). He has logged something like 10K miles or so since.

Kiddies, take note....it's not about how you or your bike looks, it's about how you ride the damn thing. Jerome is the anti-poser. He knows how to lay it down.

If the 31st free's up, I'll be clicking the attend button.

sounds like your getting defensive. do you have your nose up his rear or something nobody from what i see has said anything about him or his abilities just if  they can either go or not. and 10k in 7 months not that hard i did more then that anyways have a safe ride and a fun one.

Yeah man, 33 is freakin awesome. Just be REALLY careful. About 1/4 of the corners have gravel or rocks. Its pretty sketch, so dont push TOO hard if you cant see through the corner. 166 is just FULL of amazing views as well.

You know we will. Epic is the norm. I just limit myself to planning one at a time.
For some reason, I see nobody including Mesa Grande rd (http://www.sundaymorningrides.com/road/5568325/) when riding by lake Henshaw to Julian, so we will explore that on the next ride in that area. Picture gallery (http://www.sundaymorningrides.com/road/5568325/gallery.shtml). It's #15 in the West Coast Rides (http://www.sportbikeclub.com/sportbikeclub/article/articleDetail.jsp?id=672799&sk=595b6cef39b209563f31357a4d7f5a15) and it's calling me.

I am considering this, stay posted!
Scott, you are breaking the trend of posting an excuse for not joining. Stilll there is hope left that you will think of a good excuse.
This is also a call to everyone to post here your most original excuse of why you can't join this ride.  :P

Also- are you guys wearing full leathers or less? That gives me an idea of how you plan to ride. Would an old guy on a Beemer be welcome?

Don't have full leathers myself. Medium in general + Crazy sections. But riders go at their own pace and allowed to easily catch up. Nobody gets left behind and everyone gets what they want out of the ride.

Come along and join this old guy on a Honda.

Cypress is pretty close to our start point A (about 15% along the length of our first leg and Google map says 25 minutes), how about just meeting us at the start?
Or you can meet us at point B, just be there by 9:30am and wait for us.
I want to cut through LA as quickly as possible, without additional stops.

Click "I plan to attend this event" when you're decided. and let me know where you will be so I can look out for you.

A little road rash (http://ocmoto.com/index.php?topic=31347) isn't getting in the way of this ride.
It will just give me something to think about tomorrow instead of my hard seat.

Prakash, Jason and Jim are my new ridding friends.

There was a lovable road for everyone on this ride.
My favorite was the slow twisty of my dreams: Tepusquet road (http://maps.google.com/maps?f=d&source=s_d&saddr=34.974384,-120.211887&daddr=Tepusquet+Rd&geocode=%3BFaoLFgIdzN3V-A&hl=en&mra=dme&mrcr=0&mrsp=0&sz=14&sll=34.989293,-120.200987&sspn=0.061668,0.103683&ie=UTF8&ll=34.987781,-120.197811&spn=0.030835,0.051842&t=h&z=15): Recently resurfaced and smooth as silk, grippy with tight turns under the cover of a forest canopy. A fairytale road. My GPS tried to prevent us from riding through, but we got to use the new bridge spanning the Sisquoc River (http://www.santamariatimes.com/news/local/article_0faddcc4-1df3-11df-9019-001cc4c002e0.html). More info on this road:
   MotorcycleRoads.US - Tepusquet Road (http://www.motorcycleroads.us/roads/ca_tepusquet.html)
Pashnit Motorcycle Forum - A Beeeutifull Day on Tepusquet Canyon (http://www.pashnit.com/forum/showthread.php?t=5189)

Getting to Frazier Park from Santa Ana on the freeway was boring but expected: 1.5 hour thanks to flowing traffic (on the way back also). The most traffic was along Santa Barbara, but only lost 10 minutes or so. Doing the Los Padres Natl Forest loop in a clockwise manner kept the sun out of eyes.

At the start of Hwy 33 (http://maps.google.com/maps?f=d&source=s_d&saddr=34.677264,-119.359589&daddr=CA-33+S%2FMaricopa+Hwy&geocode=%3BFYwnDgIdcMLj-A&hl=en&mra=dme&mrcr=0&mrsp=0&sz=10&sll=34.818313,-119.546356&sspn=0.98874,1.658936&ie=UTF8&ll=34.586019,-119.267578&spn=0.247883,0.414734&z=12) there was a "loose gravel" sign leading to a 100' or so section of... loose gravel. Do not ignore this warning. Otherwise there were a few small rocks on the road here and there.

A radar detector is a good idea to properly enjoy Cuyama Hwy 166 (http://maps.google.com/maps?f=d&source=s_d&saddr=CA-166+W%2FCuyama+Hwy&daddr=34.980502,-119.767456&geocode=Fe14FwId-07Y-A%3B&hl=en&mra=dme&mrcr=0&mrsp=1&sz=11&sll=34.945051,-119.949417&sspn=0.493612,0.829468&ie=UTF8&ll=35.05698,-119.884186&spn=0.246469,0.414734&z=12). The generous tail wind was an instigator.

Forest Hwy 95 (http://maps.google.com/maps?f=d&source=s_d&saddr=Cerro+Noroeste+Rd&daddr=34.860017,-119.20166&geocode=FVZZFQIdw6Dh-A%3B&hl=en&mra=dme&mrcr=0&mrsp=1&sz=10&sll=34.704364,-119.300537&sspn=0.990105,1.658936&ie=UTF8&ll=34.888747,-119.332123&spn=0.246976,0.414734&z=12) (picture below) provided a near ideal compromise of banking speed, smoothness and surrounding golden hill scenery.

More than highly recommended: Get your ass over there and do this loop.

Jerome

And Forest Hwy 95.

If someone is good at stitching pictures into a panoramic (http://ocmoto.com/index.php?topic=31373), a better one could be made. This is just a single wide angle shot.

This was my attempt at being creative... Under the Cold Spring Canyon arch bridge (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cold_Spring_Canyon_Arch_Bridge).
Jim thought it was funny to take a picture of me while I was down on the ground "praying to the road gods" to make this shot (http://s265.photobucket.com/albums/ii204/TheGreenNinjaZX12R/OC%20Moto%20Ride%207-31-10/?action=view&current=P7310012.jpg).

Excellent detour recommendation by Jim. The Cold Spring Tavern (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cold_Spring_Tavern) was packed as we rode by.
