You don't have enough hours is a day as it is, how you gonna find time to learn to surf?  :32:

LOL very true

I just figure dirt bike = 2 hour drive to/from + maintenance

surf = 35 min drive ?

I did a lesson today in malibu! got pretty tired really early until I found the balance point on the board and got relaxed just floating and waiting for waves...

it was tiring, but in a good way...similar to a good dirt bike ride...tires you out and you get a good sleep  :29:

I don't have one for sale but def recommend one of the Costco big foam type long boards for learning.  I've seen them on CL for about $60.  I forget the length but I've had newbies standing up with an hour or less usually.

This.... 8ft soft top is your best bet or I have a vehicle you can borrow, water is now in the 70s. Let me know when you want the surf lessons we spoke of.

That's exactly what I want!

With all sports there's a high priced entry point and low priced entry point the latter being for people who aren't good enough to take advantage of good quality Equipment. It's the equivalent of getting into the sport with a Ninja 250... I did see one go for $60 but it sold quickly so I will just keep looking until I find one and just pick it up fast

Todd I will see you in the surf!

If you come to HB to take lessons from Todd, you're welcome to borrow mine for the day.  I'm right by HB high school so not too far from him/the beach.

stopped at bolsa chica...was $15 to park...so I went to huntington north of the pier and couldn't even get in the water LOL...the breaks were massive, the water was rough, and it came from different directions

went back to seal beach, and bam...finally started standing. stood up 60% of the time, rode the wave to the shore 30-40% of the time

easy way to start - wait for the wave to start crashing, let it "catch" you, then stand up for a glorious 3-5 seconds until you hit the shore or the wave runs out of energy

next stop - surfing an angle to keep going!

I like seal beach!

Pretty easy going waves that break gently...the river jetty gets some good waves too

Surfing most work days are tough....luckily I got off work at 2 yesterday and tried to sneak in some waves afterwards...

I don't start work until 12:30 Monday and I am working in HB... hopefully I can sneak in some waves in the morning!

Today was my first day off in 6 days!

And....no surf...anywhere

Sucky part about surfing is you have to wait for the waves...they don't care when you're off

Ever try paddle boarding?  You don't need waves.

How's that California lifestyle working out for you BD?

LOL

Not bad I usually cycle between two or three girls for dates whenever I am available, then keep swiping right for more recruits

I am also looking to do "the ultimate day" where I surf in the AM, ski by noon, dirt bike ride the desert in the afternoon, then go night clubbing in Vegas by 10

went to bolsa chica...kinda felt like HB/northside of the pier...we got destroyed LOL

my friend described it as "being in a washing machine" LOLOL

that's what it was...paddle out...wave gains height before it hits you, dunks you under, and you're pulled in a couple different directions and smashed against the rocks...whoops.

ended up hitting the small rocks after being smashed by a wave and rash all over my back

went back to seal beach and had a ball!

Made it out today...

No surf...maybe a rideable wave every 20 mins or so...but I spent some time just getting my paddle speed up...saw on YouTube that one reason I nose dive when the wave comes is because I am not paddling fast enough to match the wave speed. When the wave hits me quickly it lifts up the back of the board and pushes me down into the water

Was out for 2-1/2 hours....phew... exhausted

I also heard that blackies and Newport Beach and Doheny are both good for Longboards!

I have been dipping in the ocean at least once a week... Next couple times I might be out or either Saturday or Sunday of this weekend or next Wednesday

Blackies is a great beginner spot and you can hit "Mutt Lynches" for a schooner after your session!

I have a long board abandoned at my house by my sons friend. I am going to take it to SealBeach and paddle around on it and maybe even learn to surf. Mounting it to a motorcycle is intriguing too.

Do it!

It's nice to get out

I can get you to stand up on white wash (after waves break)...but honestly I have only caught a couple good long waves at Bolsa Chica with am instructor giving me a good push before the wave starts breaking

Git after it Bob should be some decent surf coming Seal Beaches way due to the hurricane down south it breaks best after low tide when its on the rise.

Went to Bolsa Chica again today...a "good beginner beach"

Had a really tough time getting past the wave break

The waves just came so frequently I kept getting pushed back

Only popped up once...got lazy and waited for whitewash to do it in

And quite a few times I caught waves on my knees...which is a BAD habit...

May not be a workout for advanced surfers, but boy am I beat! Just fighting waves trying to paddle out...feel great though! Mellows me out...

Flat at seal beach yesterday evening... caught a couple just for the exercise and the water temp was good enough that you didn't need a wetsuit...felt good!

Still going at least once a week

Flat at seal Beach again this evening...popped up quite a bit today but mostly on broken waves

Only 30 mins in the water but I tried to catch as many waves as possible which felt like a Sprint. My heart rate was nice and high as I paddled over and over. Great workout!

Water temp was pretty good too...I actually went out in trunks. The wind after the sun went down, however, was quite chilly. It was colder in the air than the water...
