Between Muirlands and Jeronimo, North East Bound; away from the freeway towards foothill ranch.

I myself didn't have time to make a uturn and stop to see if he had help in route, but he appeared to be pushing a sportbike uphill on the opposing sidewalk and wearing leathers. He was going super slow. It was dark so not sure how far he trekked and how far he has to go.

Anyhow if someone's interested and has the resources to assist; here's something to do. I spotted him about 15 minutes ago (5:45pm)

That also means the more than 3,000 people who pre-ordered a helmet may never get one – and one source tells us it’s doubtful any of them will be receiving a refund.

TBH, not surprised on the outcome. I almost pre-ordered one of these... but after playing with one decided not to. Sucks for those that did. Hopefully something good comes from it when all the dust settles.

Joseph Robinson was killed while riding his bicycle in Santiago Canyon last year on Super bowl Sunday when he was struck by a motor vehicle.

To honor & remember Joey Robinson, his friends and Jax Bicycles co-workers will be doing what Joey loved, riding.

Joey’s memorial “Ghost Bike” can be seen here being escorted by the Irvine Police Department.

WHEN: Saturday, March 8th at 7:00am / (KSU) 7:10 (Be Fueled Up)
MEET: Irvine Marketplace (13782 Jamboree Rd, Irvine, CA 92602) Between Taco Rosa and Edwards Market Place Stadium 10
ROUTE: Starting at the Irvine Marketplace via Jamboree to Santiago Canyon to Live Oak Canyon to Trabuco Canyon to Antonio Parkway to Ortega Highway and back for a full U-turn back to Irvine. (map)
SKILL LEVEL: Intermediate[1]

[1]Intermediate You have been riding for at least 6 months (hopefully more) and feel comfortable enough to handle twisty roads as found in local canyons. You are mature enough to understand going slow is okay and not to try and keep up with riders that are faster than you as it will result in a crash.

This run is about 120 miles round trip and about 2 or so hours… it's a chill ride and not a race so it's a perfect opportunity to take on Ortega the long way if you haven't yet. The roads are usually pretty clear at this time and start getting congested by recreational-traffic when we are coming back. The early bird gets the worm!

Here's the Google map: http://goo.gl/maps/Ts16c

Sportbikes, Supersport, Cruisers, Sport-Touring, Adventure Bikes welcome…

Typically we don't stop anywhere except at the bottom (G on the map) for a break unless someone speaks up during the pre-ride brief. So if you want to stop at Hell's Kitchen, The Lookout or the Candy Store let us know.
… also if you plan to go please hit the 'I Plan to Attend' otherwise at 7:10 we'll head out without you.

Hrm, now that I got one of my bikes back I'm thinking of doing a chill Ortega run on the FJR1300 (for the first time) at the crack of dawn… (I know it's too early for most and quite frankly too last minute) :17:

It was 13 days of being bikeness and like Popeye was known for saying - "That's all I can stands, I can't stands no more"

I went to Mission Motorsports today and hooked up with Frank again and took the 2005 Yamaha FJR1300 for another longer test ride this morning, had him fix a few things and the pulled the trigger after adding an extended 2-year warranty. It was a good deal for only 24,141 miles (5.4OTD + 2yr warranty). She's got all her bags and liners just a few minor scratches here and there but is quite a powerhouse compared to my Ninja 300.

Speaking of the Ninja I got an update today that she blew a con-rod like Tyler had called it after researching the kawi 300 forums with the other bike that blew it at 8.5k.

I put about 40 miles on the FJR today alone having fun with her - a total different experience than my Ninja and I like it.

Over lunch today I went to AP MotoPlex in Laguna Hills to check out a used cruiser ('97 Yamaha Royal Star 1300) that tickled my fancy.
It's a consignment place so it's as-is no warranty. Paul claimed that Metric Method Cycles gave it a once over before putting on the showroom floor. Quoted at just under 4.5k OTD (Firm).
For this facet I'm just really looking for a cheap cruiser while the kawi is in the shop, and for long rides (like the 6 states in 4 days ride) where I can saddle 2up. I was browsing around craiglist for similar cruisers but after communicating with the private sellers I was getting red flags so I went to check out a consignment center to see my options.
Talk me out of it / Opinions please!

Today Jai and I hit up the Mission Motorsports Demo Day (Ride it before you Buy it). We got there around 10:30 (the event was from 11AM-3PM)

Here are the bikes I personally got to ride. The benefit of getting there early...
'14 Yamaha YZF-R6
'14 Yamaha FZ-09
'14 Ducati Multistrada M1200

The weird part it was only a 2 mile loop so the riding time was pretty limited to even change gears. I had real fun with the R6, moreso than the other 2 bikes I got to ride. The clutch's friction zone was very small and I got to stall out a few times while waiting for the bikes to dispatch into the street. Once I got her going I got to go to 2nd and zip her up the street.

Next was the FZ-09 and that felt like I was a mermaid on the bow of a ship and I hated it. I felt so straight up that I felt like I was riding a tricycle. Jai asked me how I liked it and first thing that came out of my lips was "fudge this bike man…". (Video of this http://youtu.be/Hmk8XfnbnkU)
http://www.youtube.com/v/Hmk8XfnbnkU

The Mulistrada was the last bike and it was better than the FZ-09 in terms of straight up posture riding but as you can see my feet were dangling like ornaments off a christmas tree. I wouldn't feel safe on a windy day at a stop light.

I saw a sweet lime green 2012 Vulcan 1700 Vaquero and talked to the owner about it which was standing right next to it while I was admiring it. I would totally love to have this lime green cruiser. It really pops! He loves it and rides with his GF and is going to try and make the 1k Iron Butt Challenge this year.

We got kicked out before getting to ride the '14 Suzuki SFV650 Gladius (Around 1:40PM). It appears they had started to enforce their policy to just test riding one bike and then leaving - so as not to put more mileage than was necessary on the bikes. After that we went inside and sat on a few bikes the Ducati Panigale 899 which was pretty slick and the Kawasaki Conscourse which is also a nice bike and one I was intersted in.

We went into the accessory department and had Amy show us where the bags were and I found what I was looking for the Cortech Sport 2.0 36L Saddlebags to complete my Cortech bag set. I have the matching tank and tail bag, and the saddlebags snap right into the tail bag. This will be great for the 6 states in 4 days trip coming in April.

During the demo rides we met a few people that actually also trekked from OC. I gave them my contact info for riding.

Afterwards we went to In-N-Out for lunch and beat the lunch crowd, then went back to OC to call it a day! I got home around 3PM.

Tales of the Road / 20140123 Update on my Kawi...
« on: 01/23/14 05:17PM »
Everyone, I just got an update from Mission Motorsports on my 8mo/old '13 Kawasaki Ninja 300 ABS/SE. Kawasaki came down to look at the bike. They've reported that there was a catastrophic failure on the motor and Kawasaki is requesting MM perform a leak down test to see which cylinder was compromised during the catastrophic failure and what parts may need to be replaced - whether it is just a part thing or an entire engine replacement thing. All the records with the bike were up to date. I should hear more back tomorrow with a better estimate as to when I'll have her back.

OH SNAP! YO DAWG! I heard you liked riding so I put a ride in your ride to your ride.

Come out for a leisurely ride through scenic Ortega Highway! We'll leave from the Irvine Marketplace via the 5 Freeway to OC side of Ortega highway to the IE side of Ortega to meet back up with the Pre-Noobie Ride then to come all the way back to arrive at the Official Noobie Ride meet point early enough for coffee, breakfast and socializing! All are welcome (yet only a few nuts will engage)!

We will try and stop to pick up anyone at the Starbucks @Ortega (27211 Ortega Hwy, San Juan Capistrano, CA 926752704 ) that doesn't want to drive all the way Irvine but it will literally be a (less than 5 minute) pull into the driveway - frantically waving so you can join up and then go!
LET US KNOW IF YOU ARE GOING TO BE THERE WAITING if you aren't there you then aren't there and you've missed the train :24: to the other side. BE THERE AND BE READY LOOKING FOR US
We know it's early as heck but it's all about timing so we get there safely between 8:00-8:15 to make their KSU.

WHEN: Sunday, January 26 at 6:45am; KSU@7:00AM SHARP

REQUIREMENT: BE FUELED UP AND READY TO GO :13: - this is a ride to a ride to a ride.

Here's a sample on how I am progressing on my riding and cornering technique and style… No brakes are being used; just engine braking and throttle control.

11 months and 12838 miles of riding nearly every day (cruiser and sportbikes combined)
8 months and 9300 miles of riding this specific bike ('13 Kawasaki Ninja 300 ABS)

Now filmed with my camera positioned at the top of my helmet so the camera isn't facing the ground as it had in previous turn/cornering videos.
