Griot's Garage Spray On Car Wash when it's dirty, and Speed Shine if it's just a little dusty.

They are in WA, so I got hooked when I was in the BMW Club and they had events at the store... I even won a whole cleaning set as a raffle prize at the E30 Picnic one year, so I have one of the older model Griot's random orbital buffers.
I second Griots Garage, been using their products since the mid 90's. Speed Shine is my go to

Can anyone recommend a dyno shop that can tune a microtec ecu on a Ducati 1098? Preferably in Orange County.

Thanks.

I hope Ian's family sues the crap out of the cager.

If I die on two wheels at least my family will have solace in the fact it was my chosen past-time and I died doing what I loved. Not every rider carries this mentality, though. I told my wife and family to never blame motorcycles or to shun them if I am severely hurt or die riding. It's is an accepted risk that I take.

Well said.

My buddy and I rode up as they were performing CPR on the rider, a scene that I won't soon forget. May you rest in peace dear rider and Godspeed. And may the Lord give comfort and strength to your loved ones.

Very sad. This is now the fifth fatality I have come across since I started riding Ortega back in '04. All of them involved a bike and a cager.

I love riding as much as the next guy but it's incidents like this that really make me question why I keep riding and put my wife and daughter through untold worries every time I leave the house on two wheels.

Be careful out there folks.

While the $1,500 is not outrageous, the real question: Is your lawyer a family law lawyer or does she have actual experience defending DUI cases?  If she has no experience, then I would retain different counsel.

Sage advice. You don't want an orthopedic surgeon doing brain surgery on you, do you?

I got busted for DUI in '09 and blew a .11, this was in Orange county, I had no priors. Called a buddy of mine who is a prosecutor for LA county for advice. He told me not to waste my money with a lawyer since it was my first and go to court and plead guilty. He said that they were coming down hard on drunk driving and it would be impossible to get out of it.

I was very skeptical after hearing this, so I went ahead and got a lawyer anyway. Well it turned out my buddy the prosecutor was right.

When all was said and done I ended up pleading guilty, but my lawyer got me out of community service, no restrictions on my license, no MADD classes. Still had to attend alcohol awareness classes for three months, half a Saturday each week, 30 day suspension and 3 years informal probation.

Lawyer cost me $8K, there were cheaper alternatives but that's another story. All told, the whole thing cost me close to $15k when you add up the court fees, fines plus lawyer's fees.

Yes you're right, early mornings are usually pretty open. I try and do that in the summer, just been way too cold in the mornings lately.

Tales of the Road / Great day for a ride
« on: 02/24/14 05:36PM »
Went out for a ride shortly after 1pm and hit Ortega. Approaching from the OC side to the Lookout, there were a few cars not too bad. The way back though was a completely different story. No cages whatsoever! I was shocked.  Once in a while the motorcycling gods smile upon you and your faith in riding is renewed. Today was my turn! I've been riding Ortega for ten years and I've never seen it that wide open, never. Not even on weekdays. It was so nice that I settled into a rhythm in the turns and just went with the flow. No cloud in sight just nice warm sunshine with a slight breeze. It was nirvana. I was wishing it would not end.

On a day like today I was able to appreciate Ortega and it's beauty despite it's much maligned reputation for accidents and horrid traffic. Made me wonder what the road was like back in the day before it got crowded. I If If today was any indication it must have been pretty awesome...

It harkens me back to my motorcycling days in the mid west, northern Wisconsin to be exact. Bright summer day leading a group ride through the nicely paved twistys and sweepers without encountering any vehicle for miles on end. Ah the good old days.

Today was a gift. Thank you motorcycling gods.

Ducati / Re: 1098s Needs Piston Rings

Ducman,
As someone else suggested I would recommend SBK Corse in Laguna Hills. I had the same problem with my 1098S bought it new in '07. Last year with less than 7k miles it started blowing blue smoke on deceleration and there was oil in the airbox. A symptom of blown rings, oil was getting past them. If you don't have these symptoms I'd get a second opinion.

Anyway, after much research I chose SBK Corse to do the work because of Neil Freeman, he is the head tech. I found out from talking to him that he worked for Ducati Corse (the racing team within Ducati) in Bologna, Italy. He had me at hello as they say. I can go on and on but you really owe it to yourself to talk to him.

In any case my options were to replace the rings and put the bike back to stock; or do some mods since the engine was going to be torn apart anyway. I chose the latter and I could not be happier. Neil did a phenomenal job and I'm enjoying my 1098S a heck of a lot more than when it was brand new.

Let me know if you need more info. Always happy to help out a fellow Duc owner.
Picked up the duc yesterday from SBK Corse. Neil showed me the defective parts that was not letting the starter stay engaged. He also noticed the new starter that had been installed. As my problem had been missdiagnosed. Also the piston rings were fine, the engine had plenty of compression. So must thank you again as James & Neil will see me again for any service needed.

Glad it turned out okay and you escaped with minimal expense versus having to replace the rings! Neil knows his shit!
