As Ducati is showing the new line up for 2010, the only changes are paint schemes. As the power remains the same. So looks like 2011 is the year for new engineering. BMW will get some new business with their new sport bike for sure. I will wait for the Ducati answer. Happy Thanksgiving all Ducati fans, as we are the few, the winningest, and the happiest owners of a sport bike. Go duc, where being on the red is cool.

I don't own a ducati, yet - waiting for my lottery ticket to get cashed. Plan on the 1198 in either 2011 or 2012 (if we're still around)
I do have a reliable gixxer though, and that little guy has done just fine by me, have a nice day.

Honda was red way before ducatti lol I know what you guys really want and it comes from the blue Well, sure gotta question that. As before WWII countries had to paint race cars with a color associated by country by the current race body of the time. As for example Germany was silver, England was (butt ugly) green, and Italy was (look at me bitchen) red, USA was (mellow) blue. As Japan was making aircraft carriers and working on new airplanes to do harm in the late 30's. Also didn't know how to copy any body else's design yet, and on a good thought improve on it. So to make a even long story short, they sucked. So the claim to the red stuff also holds no merit whatsovever, another Jappanese copy.

ducs first bike was introduced in 1950 yes notice it's typical red ala ferrari But Hondas original bike the dream began in 1945/46 and it's mass production began in 1949 notice it's much darker in lieu of there national flag was at that time closer to what ducatti is now

I searched around online and didn't find any references to Honda racing until 1959. And honestly.. I thought Italy used silver for their heritage racing colors. /shrug. The 1954 Ducati Gran Sport 100 (Mariana) (altho this one is a '55) came in a damn good red. meh, it don't matter, they're both good name badges. Without color photos from 1940/50's racing we could argue this until armageddon.

The Cucciolo started out as the name of an engine Duc produced from 1946 the first race bike than production bikes they made named after it didnt start until 1950.

I think you buy a Ducati because you want a "DUCATI"...you can buy a R1 for around $10K, or gxsr 750 for $8K...848 is $14K... I bought a 848 because it is a Ducati...When I go riding with my friends that ride kawa, bmw, harley, every place we stop people always come over to talk about the red ducati..."How's the duck ?" is one of the most Qs I get...or how much was it?...people think ducs are $20K+...

I agree with that 100% +1...Its all good...its about riding on two wheels... I was just trying to say that you can get a lot more bike for $14K, but I decided to get 848 because it was a ducati and I was willing to pay extra for that...I love my red hot Italian lady...

What I'm trying to point out is that while Ducatti had been building engines since 1946 they Didnt create there first motorcycle till 1950 to see production in 1952 while Honda was already 6 years into motorcycle production at that time. Personally I think Ducatti is right in line with Ferrari - you buy the bike for it's looks and performance - I just wish that was backed up by durability and sometimes comfort that other bikes have like Honda ect. but thats really the difference between what low volume and high volume cost over time considerations get you.

All said, my dream bike is the 1198S - and I've gotten the Wife's ok, just waiting until after Christmas to start scouting a purchase. I'm concerned it may be more bike than I can handle. But I'm in Love.

I see. I was trying to specifically address the 'who has been racing longer?' question. But i can't find anything concrete for Honda.

Rode the 1198S before buying the F1098. It handles nice on short trips but the mirrors vibrate too much to see anything clearly except my arms. Long trips it and most sport bikes I've tryed get renamed the torture rack, too hard on the wrists, killer backaches. I'll stick with handlebars on top of the triples or higher than the seat. Red is the only Ducati color choice IMO. Black and White the only other choices this year are considered in the gray scale. The S4R Blue would be a nice option too since they discontinued yellow for obvious reasons. Look forward to seeing the 1198R with this brushed aluminum tank and all 3 colors together! http://www.ducati.com/vi/mediaGallery.do?task=detail&id=1491

I got that with every bike I've owned...the zx14, fz6, even the ex500 back in the day. the one bike i've owned that deserved it (r1, barely street legal) usually got confused for something else. i love Ducati's aesthetically and mechanically, but they're still not as special as some of their owners think they are. The difference between a 848 and an R1 (at the track) is statistically insignificant.
