WHEN: Saturday August 14, at 8:00 am (KSU time, so arrive before)
MEET: Mobil at the corner of Main & MacArthur (see map link below)
ROUTE: See map below
SKILL LEVEL: Noobie, Intermediate, Expert*

292 miles and about 7 hours of riding (not counting stops).
Highlights: Double dose of... Ortega, Palomar, Mesa Grande, Banner Grade.

Because of the forecasted high temperature in Borrego Springs (107 F in the shade) for Saturday, this ride avoids that valley. So no "Montezuma" but more of the twisties in the cooler areas, like...
Mesa Grande rd when riding by lake Henshaw to Julian. Picture gallery. It's #15 in the West Coast Rides

Map of the route   <-- Click me.
Point A: Start and gas station: Mobil at the corner of Main & MacArthur.
Point B: Gas station: Chevron on Ortega, on East side of 5 Fwy. 2nd meetup location: Be here before 8:20 am and wait for me.
Point C: Gas station: In Pala. 3rd meetup location: Be here before 9:30 am and wait for me.
Point D: Lunch break: Apple Country Restaurant.
Point E: Gas station: In Santa Ysabel.
Point F: Turn-around at bottom of Banner Grade.
Reverse route, with stops at above points...
Point C: Gas station: In Pala.
Gas station: Shell in San Juan Capistrano.

************* Skill Levels Defined:
Noobie -You have been riding your motorcycle for at least 3 months (hopefully more) and have confidence that you can ride around streets without any issues eg. stopping at stop lights, not stalling the bike, not falling over etc, making u-turns, etc.
Intermediate - You have been riding for at least 6 months (hopefully more) and feel comfortable enough to handle twisty roads as found in local canyons. You are mature enough to understand going slow is okay and not to try and keep up with riders that are faster than you as it will result in a crash.
Expert - You have been riding for years and hopefully been riding with the members going on the ride long enough to know how they ride.

Yes, I fine-tuned the route now starting in Santa Ana and the stops.

For those joining, let me know at which meet point (A in Santa Ana, B in San Juan Capistrano or C in Pala) so I know where to expect you.

Bring your camera, because the road she is pretty.

Sorry, but a 9 am start is already early and a stretch for me.

Temperature-wise, low 80's is great. By avoiding the Borrego Springs valley floor, we are already making ourselves comfortable.

To each there own, but 9 am early? We would normally leave Ortega and the 5 around 6:30-7:00 when we did these rides.

I might be going out with some other people so maybe we'll see you on the road.

This one's just a bit too long for my limited stamina.  Hubby and I were on the brink of joining you last Sat, but the uncertainty of the road quality pushed me off the fence on the chicken side.  Now, given that I'm an old married woman, I might not be in the demographic that you had in mind! ;)
Still occasionally missing 2nd gear on the upshift...

Haha, yeah, I dont know if I have a good answer for that. Most lady riders are usually partnered with a male rider as was the case on my ride.  There just arent a lot of women riders yet in the world, and of them, not a lot like to do longer rides in my opinion/observations.  In 20 years I have only ridden with 3 independent women, out enjoying the rides on their own initiative without a hubby or boyfriend influencing the choices.  I ended up dating two of them! LOL.

Shocker...  I have no cell phone! All the 20 and 30 year olds must be gasping. Yes, one can live without one.
I will be carrying my girlfriend's phone (pink) for the day for emergencies, but leave it off inside my backpack.
I hope you can meet us at the pre-arranged locations/times, this will be a great ride.
