Point E: Join other group: Chevron, Hwy 41 near 5 Fwy.
Point F/A: End at gas station: Mobil at the corner of Main & MacArthur.

The obvious question: Why not just join the other ride?
Because I want to ride the magnificent coast near Big Sur which will be cooler, instead of going up a hot Owen's valley which I know well.

************* Skill Levels Defined:
Noobie -You have been riding your motorcycle for at least 3 months (hopefully more) and have confidence that you can ride around streets without any issues eg. stopping at stop lights, not stalling the bike, not falling over etc, making u-turns, etc.
Intermediate - You have been riding for at least 6 months (hopefully more) and feel comfortable enough to handle twisty roads as found in local canyons. You are mature enough to understand going slow is okay and not to try and keep up with riders that are faster than you as it will result in a crash.
Expert - You have been riding for years and hopefully been riding with the members going on the ride long enough to know how they ride.

Awesome plan. I've done Big Sur and the redwoods in 09 and it's an incredible trip.
A little short notice but would definitely consider taking the  :49: next time.

Added 14 miles to day 2, for a complete tour of Yosemite valley.

GPS is programmed with the routes and the radar detector updated with latest "safety" locations.

Did a weather forecast check (Thursday 9pm)...

Friday (Day 1): Near ideal for the coast: Mostly sunny, no fog, not too cold or hot, very little chance of rain, not windy. Details...
Santa Ana: At 9am: 70F. Partly cloudy. 10% chance of rain.
Oxnard: At 11am: 67F. Partly cloudy. 20% chance of rain.
San Luis Obispo: At 1pm: 77F. Mostly sunny. Not windy. No fog. 10% chance of rain.
Monterey: At 4pm: 63F. Sunny. Not windy. No fog. 0% chance of rain..
Los Banos: At 6pm: 84F. Sunny. 0% chance of rain

Saturday (Day 2): Not too cold at Tioga Pass, but a chance of rain there and Yosemite.
Los Banos: At 9am: 65F. Sunny. 0% chance of rain.
Groveland: At 11am: 72F. Mostly sunny. 10% chance of rain.
Tioga Pass: Early afternoon: 61 F. Chance of T-storm.
Lee Vining (near Mono Lake): 1pm: 71F. Isolated T-storms. 30% chance of rain.
Yosemite: 3pm: 81F. Isolated T-Storms. 30% chance of rain.
Mariposa: 6pm: 86F. Mostly sunny. 10% chance of rain.

Saturday (Day 3): Ideal. Mostly sunny day and not too hot.
Fresno: 86F max. Mostly sunny. 0% chance of rain.
Ojai: 78F max. Mostly sunny. 10% chance of rain.
Santa Ana: 78F max. Mostly sunny. 0% chance of rain.

So I will bring my rain gear, for risk of thunderstorms at Tioga Pass, Mono Lake and Yosemite. Otherwise the forecast is great.

Nobody else signed up, so I will not be making a stop at 9am at point A.

I will shift Saturday early: Leave Los Banos at sunrise to try to be at Mono Lake around 11am and try to avoid the afternoon risk of T-storms on Tioga Pass.

Have fun this weekend,
   Jerome

I have been lucky with the weather these last 2 days: Great along the coast and for today at Tioga Pass and Yosemite valley.
Tomorrow is 30 % chance of rain from Oarkhust to Fresno and should be OK after that into Ojai.

Coming up the coast yesterday there was a place where the surf would spill onto the freeway, so you had to time your passage. :-)

Glad I had the radar detector today in Yosemite Natl Park on the 120.

My rear tire is toast.
Looking forward to meeting up with the other group tomorrow.

Will post pictures on Monday night.

You are funny Chris.

I just came back from eating and met the other group who recognized me walking Mariposa's main.
They are all doing fine and had lots of adjectives for the 49 they had just been on. Some were still hyper, so I agreed to everything.
They wer going to stop for beers a little further down the road before retiring to their hotels in Oakhurst.
That was about 20 minutes ago and now it's pouring rain here in Mariposa as I use the free Internet computer.
It was fun seeing familiar faces while out on the road.  :-)

I altered my road yesterday to do more of Hwy 1 (instead of the 101) to enjoy a more scenic route South of San Luis Obispo.
Today I made my route longer by returning to the 120 and the fantastic twisties between Groveland and the 49, and then enjoy the 49 to Mariposa.
